Well, this takes me back!
I haven't drawn this guy in a VERY long time, people. In fact, the last time I drew him, I was probably still in high school. To put things in perspective, I graduated in '95. He was one of my first characters that I'd developed a real plot about, and even a story that I called "The Space Cowboy," hence the futuristic duster jacket. So even back then, I was into "Wild-West-in-space" ideas, as you can see.
Jason's stories were pretty elementary compared to the actual books and short stories I write today, so I shelved him with plans to make him into something for later. I think I've finally found a home for him in Wild Space Saga, as well as Tyria, his lady love. I have a bit of an idea to develop him into sort of a legend dating back to the First Imperium, whom Xerx and his crew "unearth." His presence may lead to all sorts of new adventures. I already have some ideas for him that Terry and I will be tossing back and forth. But expect more nice artwork involving him and Tyria in the future.
Tyria, btw, is actually human. Her looks are a throwback to a bygone era during the Imperium when people got a lot of exotic body sculpting done. She's supposed to be a sort of courtesan. Still haven't fleshed her character out completely, as she was more or less a "femme fatale" for the old Space Cowboy story. In this, not so much.
And yes, I'm aware that they look a little bit like Mal and Inara from Firefly. That wasn't intentional. :-P
More to come, folks, so stay tuned!
And yes, Jason will most likely still be a space cowboy, of sorts.
